West Coast Legend Ras Kass to Meet and Greet Fans in Orange
Timothy Norris/ LA Weekly
Ras Kass, the west coast rapper behind hip-hop classics "Nature of the Threat" and "Interview With a Vampire," will be meeting and greeting fans tomorrow at DSTRTD Truth's headquarters in Orange!
The rhymer first splashed onto the scene making waves in hip-hop with 1996's Soul on Ice, his critically acclaimed major label debut. The basic beats allowed listeners to become better acquainted with the rapper's cleaver lyricism. Two years later Rassassination dropped with great anticipation. (I remember seeing the full-page ads in The Source magazine back when I was in high school!) The effort propelled him to widespread audiences.
Ras Kass comes to Orange to celebrate the release of his latest album Blasphemy with Mello Music Group producer Apollo Brown. It features collaborations with Sick Jacken, Pharoahe Monch, Rakaa Iriscience and fellow Golden State Warrior Xzibit. The 15-track barrage delivers definite head-nod shit to end the year with.
"Yeah, this is how to kill God / Holocaust, Crusades, Zionism, Jihad / Yeah, this is how to kill God /Racism, sexism, every ism is a schism," rhymes Ras Kass to outro the seemingly blasphemously titled "How to Kill God."
The rapper will first be speaking on his nearly 20-year career on a taping of Wake The Flok Up, OC's hip-hop podcast show hosted by Koncept714. The crew helped bring him to Orange scoring their second coup after Masta Ace came through earlier this year. Then fans will line up for a chance to chop it up, take pictures with and get autographs from Ras Kass starting around 4 p.m.
A taquero and a beer garden will keep the line moving. Don't let a little rain get in the way. Ras Kass is "The Waterproof MC" anyway, remember? See you there!
WakeTheFlokUp and DSTRDTruth present Ras Kass at 1020 N. Batavia St. Suite D, Orange, Wed., 4 p.m.!
