The Gypsy Lounge It is a sad day for everyone in Orange County. . . . Our doors have officially been locked. . . . Mourn with us. . . . We'll keep you posted on any and all details.

ORIGINAL ITEM, DEC. 21, 3:38 P.M.: We just heard unfortunate news: The Gypsy Lounge in Lake Forest will be closing down at the end of January, according to the Lake Forest Patch website. This news has shocked OC fans and musicians alike, as it has been a huge part of the music scene for so many years.

Mike Concepcion, owner and booker of Gypsy Lounge, blames the landlord, Patch editor Spencer Kornhaber (our former staffer) writes. Faris Lee Investments is planning to take over and build a strip mall, necessitating the eviction the Lounge as tenants.

It's been the location of many bands' first shows and a favorite venue for many concert-goers. However, the OC Music Awards still plan on hosting one of its annual showcases at the Gypsy Lounge.

“It's still on the calendar for now. I only know the very little that I know–if we have to, we will find another venue. But it will be extremely unfortunate, and I really hope we do not have to,” says Ashley Eckenweiler, director of events, public relations and marketing for the awards.

We'll keep you posted as things develop. Hopefully, the Gypsy Lounge will be able to find a new home to keep up the rock.
