Update: American Idol Theft Suspect Convicted
Remember last week when we wrote about the saga of Todrick Dramaul Hall, the dude from American Idol who got his phone jacked along with $400? Well, the idiot who didn't know about the Find My iPhone app is facing the consequences of her actions.
Today, Bertha Alicia Avalos of Santa Ana pleaded guilty Monday to petty theft of lost property and petty theft, both misdemeanors. She'll be spending eight days in the Orange County clink thinking about how stupid she is.
For those of you who don't remember, Hall, who was on the Idol in 2010, performed at the retirement ceremony last Thursday. He was outside the school signing autographs and posing for photographs with students when he put his iPhone 5 on a school bench behind him, Santa Ana police said. You know what happened next.
Having had his phone plucked once before, Hall wisely so this time he installed the Find My iPhone app on his phone. The result? He was able to track it to a local grocery store. With the help of a school security guard who recognized a student from the elementary school in the store with an iPhone, so when Hall and the guard were talking to the boy they noticed that his mother, Avalos, made a beeline for the back of the store, police said.
She was arrested and will now pay for her misgivings. Just another day in Santa Ana.
