Top Five EDM Shows in November
HARD SUMMER 2013
Fabian Ortiz / OC Weekly
For dance music devotees, this weekend marks the largest LA massive with HARD's Day of the Dead festival at the Los Angeles Historic Park featuring the cream of the crop when it comes to line-ups with array of non-recycled world renowned talent such as Giorgio Moroder, Deadmau5, Masters at Work, Calvin Harris and many more. But if you think the party stops there, think again (and rest your livers).
This month boasts an array of shows from your favorite tastes makers like Avicii, Sander Van Doorn and Excision at the Hollywood Bowl to Morgan Page Presents in 3D at the Yost Theater in Santa Ana. It seems like every artist is trying to outdo one another with their own live tour reaching epic proportions. With a plethora of shows popping up every week it's hard to decide which are worth using your hall-pass and not to mention hard earned cash on. Don't fret however, we did the hard work for you and choose the top five EDM shows in November to make sure you never have to stop dancing.
If you are not making it to HARD's Day of the Dead and you favor the more euphoric sounds of trance, we suggest seeing the legendary Paul Oakenfold. The three time Grammy nominated DJ and producer graced the Avalon stage in 2003 when they first opened their doors and now he is celebrating the 10 year anniversary. Since then, the dance music institution has made the DJ Mag's top 100 nightclubs list for the past seven years and been a stop for every major EDM artist. What better way to celebrate than with the pioneer of the global trance scene as he brings his "Full on Fluoro" sound to the states for the first time. Returning to his roots "Trance Mission" brings a fresh visual and audio experience for the true trance family aficionados. The always evolutionary artist is also changing the game once again and bringing a new album concept where Oakenfold will create brand new versions of his favorite trance releases of all time. We hope he gives us a little preview at Avalon this weekend.

4. Rogers Sanchez with Focus Residents Josh Billings, Wobs and Nonfiction Yost Theater Saturday, November 9th The new Wonderland Saturdays continue at the Yost Theater with a special edition as our favorite underground house music staple Focus brings their resident DJs Josh Billings, Wobs and Nonfiction to support New York City's house legend Roger Sanchez. Expect a night of funky good vibes as the Focus guys (who were recently praised by tech house king Pleasurekraft via Twitter) set the mood for something different than most club rats are used to. Forget bottle service and crazy LEDs, these guys just want to make you dance and Sanchez is sure to follow suit. "There is a rebirth of underground house music and a new young audience that is discovering this sound and looking for deeper sexier sounds," he says. Sanchez's latest single "My Roots" brings that old school Chicago House sound with a fresh 2013 twist. Known to mix a lot of live vocal mash ups and looping samples, Sanchez is a master of his craft that's sure to get you moving even if you are unfamiliar with the sound of the underground.
Mat Zo's highly anticipated debut albumDamage Control
comes out November 5th on Astralwerks and he has a massive 24-date headlining North American Bus Tour to accompany it. The UK now LA transplant producer makes his way to OC this month with support form electro house phenomenon Nom De Strip to showcase his new album and genre defying talents behind the decks. "I wanted acts that could deliver variety but with their own unique styles," said Zo on his chosen support which also includes OC's Norin & Rad for select dates. "Each of the acts that will be joining me is known for individuality and doing things on their own terms rather than just following the status quo." Mat recently posted a track titled "Turn Up the Funk" with the description "best three hours I've ever spent" making fun of the current state of EDM and how it all sounds the same with bangers and drops to no avail. His debut album will sound nothing like this and will be a refreshing change of pace when he comes to OC from the same recycled artist we hear every week.2. New World Punx Hollywood Palladium Wednesday, November 27th
With a mutual love for the classic trance sound Ferry Corsten and Markus Schulz have teamed up to create the dynamic duo New World Punx. Both highly successful artists in their own right, they favor opposite ends of the trance spectrum with Ferry on the melodic side and Markus on the darker side and together create trance goodness unlike ever before. As the self proclaimed trance warriors took the stage at Madison Square Garden at this years A State of Trance 600 it became evident that the duo who play back to back and opened with their smash hit "Romper" is on to something big. Bringing back that old school vibe of jamming together while celebrating new productions and the future of dance music they come together for the first time in LA at the infamous Hollywood Palladium. Taking their name from Markus' own classic "New World" and Ferry's "Punk" they bring a fusion of trance that's sure to have the feels meter out the roof that Thanksgiving Weekend.
1. Eric Prydz Epic 2.0 Hollywood Palladium Saturday, November 9th
The God of progressive house and several techno aliases is known for making anything he touches in epic proportions. This includes his highly esteemed EPIC 3D hologram based concert show which came to the states for the first time at Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC last month and hits the LA Hollywood Palladium and the Chicago Aragon Ballroom in November. These are your only chances to experience the PRYDA journey unlike anything you have ever seen before and the best part is it's all fucking live. Yes, on the fly his team of VJs handling the holograms, lights and LEDS as well as the master himself work together to bring you a different unique experience each time. "When I DJ I try and take people on a journey," says Prydz. "I like an environment that's stripped down and allows the music to speak for itself. EPIC is something else, we're expanding the narrative - it's a concert show. With holograms, the lasers and the visuals I am able to tell a story on many different levels." With support from Pryda Friends Jeremy Olander and Fehrplay this show is going to be one for the books.
