Whether or not you ever took the time to memorize the lyrics, it's virtually impossible to escape the age-old New Year's anthem "Auld Lang Syne." First penned by Scottish poet Robert Burns in 1788 (hooray for geeky trivia), this poem-turned tune has been sung by scores of orchestras, guitar wielding folk musicians and plastered party people for centuries. What's even more interesting is how many ways it has been interpreted by some of the world's best artists. After rummaging around YouTube, I've managed to dig up a handful of interesting covers of New Year's one and only holiday anthem. It might even make you excited enough to actually learn the lyrics this year.
