The Top Five EDM Parties on New Year's Eve

The end of the year snuck up on most of us this year with all of the fun we've been having week after week and the plethora of electronic dance music events that surged the music scene this year. It seems like every month there has been a major EDM festival or event and we're still recovering from the madness. But now that the Christmas gifts are open and you can't even stand to look at leftovers it's time to think New Years Eve. Some have been planning their midnight festivities for a while now (or maybe just who they plan on smooching at midnight), but we kept seeing EDM events pop up like Starbucks on every corner. Yet we still managed to break down the top five EDM NYE parties in Orange County and it's surrounding cities for your convenience of course.

5. Classixx and Cosmic Kids at Detroit Bar

Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa is known as an OC staple for live music and an indie hipster scene (with the occasional rap shin dig going on). This year their New Year's Eve with Classixx and Cosmic Kids follows suit. The electronic duo Classixx have been known to stray away from the heavy electro bangers dominating nightclubs these days and sticking to their medley of house, funk, new wave and disco. Coming straight from their gig for the Do-Over in Playa Del Carmen we are sure they will keep the dance floor funky like a glittery rehash of Studio 54. With opening support from LA's Cosmic Kids, OC's Danny Love, a $25 cover, free champagne toast at midnight, drink specials and free overnight parking this is an indie rock electronic music loving hipster's dream.

4. Minaya & Vikus and Kedd Cook at Mesa

OC Weekly favorites Minaya & Vikus are playing two gigs this New Years Eve (as do many of the top EDM DJ superstars these days). Yet somehow we think the vibe at their “Birds of a Feather, End the Year Together” gig at Mesa will be a more intimate affair with the rising stars. We prefer the underground vibes that the Modern Disco Ambassadors have been bringing to Le Cave Wednesdays weekly. Alongside Insomniac's Discovery Project winner and MDA resident DJ Kedd Cook the third annual New Year's Eve at The Camp brings that underground vibe to a swanky lounge that opens it's roof to even display fireworks. With the booming house, tech and deep sounds resonating through this posch venue we couldn't think of a better way to see our Orange County local DJs and ring in the new year!

3. Sasha and Adam Beyer at Exchange LA

If you have the means to make it to Los Angeles for NYE we highly suggest attending Insomniac Events' “I love Techno” at Exchange LA. This event was announced a little late in the grand scheme of promoting, but for the real house, tech and deep music lovers this will be the party of a lifetime. As if seeing the legendary Sasha and Swedish techno master Adam Beyer weren't enough, Damian Lazarus is bringing his Crosstown Rebel's sound with Art Department for a night of unforgettable music and the real underground techno tunes that dominate the scene in Europe. Not to mention that Exchange LA boasts a Funktion One sound system that was literally made for this music. The official invite says 9pm-?? which is typical of these types of parties because once the music takes over you won't be able to stop for hours on end.

2. White Wonderland at the Anaheim Convention Center

Insomniac Events is bringing back White Wonderland for it's second year to the Anaheim Convention Center for only one night this time, but with two stages filled with world renowned DJs. The line-up to this exclusive 21 and over event includes trance enthusiast favorites Above & Beyond, Dash Berlin, Ferry Corsten and Tritonal. As well as superstars like Avicii, Bingo Players, Hardwell, Madeon, Sebastian Ingrosso, Dannic and of course the biggest headliner…YOU. Known for their emphasis on the experience Insomniac will fill the Convention Center with theatrics, aerialists, performers, special effects and guests in the mandatory all white attire for a magical NYE. For the more upscale crowd Identity MG and it's Sutra and Ten Nightclub teams are providing the ultimate VIP experience with Grey Goose and champagne starting at $2,600. Which is pretty standard for the bottle service crowd who rolls through Sutra every Thursday.

1. OMFG! NYE at the San Diego Sports Arena

San Diego and it's promoters LED Presents are growing with the surge of dance music aficionados in SoCal. This year they have outdone themselves with a two day NYE festival packed with some of the biggest EDM artists of the moment. Sunday's event features acts like Calvin Harris, Nero, Nervo, Kill the Noise and Audrey Napoleon while the Monday NYE line-up is just as good with Laidback Luke, Hardwell, Zedd, Dillon Francis, Clockwork, Baauer and TJR. That's a lot of house, electro, moombahton, dubstep and trap to ring in the new year with a bang! Two day tickets are still available for $160 (that's only a couple Jacksons more than White Wonderland) or you can purchase single day tickets for each day respectively. Yes we know this is an 18 and over event, but aren't most EDM massives? If the music is right and the promoters know how to throw a good party (which LED has proven) this is just the type of event most EDM lovers would expect in the hay days of Together As One and such.
