The Constellation Room
Two sides of the same alien planet are revealed at once with Texas' Indian Jewelry and OC's Black Bananas, who don't so much play shows together as fulfill ancient prophecies together. If you remember your Tobin's Spirit Guide, you'll recognize this as a full-on gatekeeper-meets-keymaster situation, and thus you will rejoice. This is rock 'n' roll and psychedelia and delirious mind-grinding riffery unchained from retro pantomime, and if you want something in 2013 that feels (not sounds) like the 13th Floor Elevators must've felt in 1973–yeah, that's right, we're talking live tapes!–then here you go. And if you want something that sounds like Suicide, Hank Shocklee, Parliament Funkadelic and George Brigman all vibrating toward one-ness, well, they got that too. The Constellation Room
The diverse range of sounds from this Fullerton band is unbelievably catchy and undeniably fun. If you like harmonious vocals mixed in with your dance beats, The Steelwells can oblige; and even their subtle flirtations with chillwave in songs like “Cool Kids” and “Hands Up” will be genuine crowd- pleasers; it's no wonder they caught the eye of Rolling Stone magazine, a feat not to be dismissed. Good thing they're committing to a residency this month, audiences simply won't get enough of them in one night. Get in on the chill vibes action tonight at the Constellation Room. (Aimee Murillo)

BLOK
Detroit Bar
This southern California family affair consists of two siblings who together become BLOK, describing their musical genre as 'pop urban surrealism,' which is fitting since BLOK's sound is out of this world. The two have collaborated on numerous trippy jams with brother Damien Blaise and sister Gianna Gianna penning lyrics and fulfilling vocals together. Through their hypnotic electronic beats and sharp rhymes, BLOK are considered iconoclasts in the Orange County music scene and beyond; they've been featured everywhere from high fashion's NYLON magazine Japan to world famous KROQ. Just as their music is fiercely transgressive and unique, their visual aesthetic and music videos are equally fierce and magnetic, capitalizing on the weird and wonderful world in which they've created for themselves. Tonight they play at the Detroit Bar will fellow avant garde acts The Garden and Terminal A. (Aimee Murillo)

Fuzz
Alex's Bar
In the wake of a prolific string of solo records and collaborations that has left the Pitchfork set fawning, garage-rock prodigy Ty Segall has formed a new band, Fuzz, a hard-hitting, three-piece Stooges-meets-Sabbath project in which he sings and plays drums. The name pretty much says it all about their sound: a full-on assault of syrupy, fuzz-tone riff-rock. Following a successful OC show at Burgerama last March, the band returns to SoCal for a show at Alex's Bar this week. (Adam Lovinus)

DJ Quik and Suga Free
Fox Pomona
DJ Quik is known for producing records at record speed, while Suga Free, the self proclaimed pimp-turned-rapper, is anything but sweet. This dynamic duo first came together in 1997 when Quik produced Suga's debut album, Street Gospel. True to Quik's name, the album was completed in just 28 days and featured a unique sound that became an instant California classic. Now the West Coast pioneers are at it again, co-headlining at the Fox Theater in Pomona. Witness the magic as the pair performs their hits like “Down Down Down” and “Nobody.” Unlike their monikers suggest, this concert won't be quick, but it's sure to be sweet. (Amanda Parsons)
