Pre-Mexican Independence Day Party
Characters
Just a few days away from this show is Mexican Independence Day, where Mexican communities will be bursting with pride with grand celebrations; but just before that, tonight's Pre-Mexican Independence Day Party at Characters Bar will set the celebration in motion with a lineup of Latino rockabilly bands. Moonlight Trio, a self-proclaimed “cumbia-billy” band will be on hand to play some sweet cumbia-infused rock n' roll. Southern California's Tone Slingers will also be taking the stage to play their high energy rockabilly sets at this legendary punk venue. Mix in DJ sets by Jorge Dean and Lil Jose and you have a wild and rambunctious night out.(Aimee Murillo)

The Devious Means Album Release Party
The Wayfarer
Indie-rock darlings The Devious Means carved out a niche in Orange County's sonic ecosystem with smart, accessible songwriting that showcases crafty lyrics and more hooks than a fly-fishing competition. Their first full-length album, Other Animals, drops September 13 with a launch party at the Wayfarer. (Kyle Cavaness)

Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Festival
Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre
Over the past several years, standup comedians have become a massive draw on the touring circuit. Between the stars who have their own shows and specials on TV and the comics who have popularized podcasts, it's a very good time to be a comedian. The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival features national headliners like Louis C.K. and Sarah Silverman, rapidly ascending comics like Amy Schumer, Hannibal Burress and Aziz Ansari, and established veterans/podcast-kings Marc Maron, Bill Burr and Chris Hardwick. In the past, the only place you'd hope to see one (nevertheless all) of these comedians would be at your local (and small) comedy club. But with a trip to one of the largest amphitheaters in Southern California, this tour proves that comedians are the new rock stars. (Daniel Kohn)

The Iron Maidens
Slidebar
If there was any doubt left in the world that women could rock, we submit the guitar heroines of The Iron Maidens, the only all-female tribute to heavy metal legends Iron Maiden. Formed in Los Angeles, each member of The Iron Maidens are all accomplished musicians in their own right, and have pinned down the musical stylings of their rocker counterparts enough to add their own spin on IM's tracks through improvisation. The Iron Maidens have rightly earned praise for their musical talents and attention to detail in Iron Maiden's concert performances, now it's up to you to see them for yourself. Iron Maidens play an afternoon show today at the Slidebar, so come through and hang out! (Aimee Murillo)

Porter Robinson
Fox Theater
Producing since the tender age of 12, Porter Robinson has the EDM world in the palm of his well-manicured hand. He was just 18 when he achieved international acclaim, and he's been on nearly every young-people-to-watch list, nabbing the number one spot on InTheMix's 25 under 25, as well as the top of practically every electronic-music chart. Look out for his commissioned remixes of tracks from both Deadmau5 and Avicii, and definitely download his debut album, released just last month, for a go-to party-in-the-desert soundtrack. With his futuristic, Japan-influenced style of music, heavily colored by video games, expect Robinson's show tonight at the Fox Theater to be full of adrenaline-hungry millenniels. (Erin DeWitt)
