The Eagles

The '70s just wouldn't have been the same without the peaceful, easy feelings generated by the Eagles. The band spent years living life in the fast lane, generating more than $300 million in record sales and winning six Grammy awards as they chronicled the attitudes of the decade using California as a metaphor for the nation. But on one fateful January night in Long Beach, circa 1980, the band took it to the limits and called it quits. Some say it was a combination of lyin' eyes and witchy women that broke the group apart, others just claim it was time. Regardless, they reunited in 1994 for the Hell Freezes Over tour and they haven't looked back since. The Observatory
Though it's been over a decade since Finch's landmark debut What It Is to Burn, fans definitely haven't forgotten about them. A history marred by breakups and lineup changes wasn't enough to keep the band from regrouping last year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their first record. The reunion proved fruitful. Now, they're busy touring on their first new album in years, Return to Oblivion. Has your favorite post-hardcore band aged well in 2014? Come to the Observatory and find out. Bixby Park
1st Saturdays Music at Bixby Park, a new monthly event focusing on highlighting local musical talent, theater, and other performance groups will perform at the Historic Bixby Band Shell on October 4th from 5pm to 8pm and will continue through 2015. The Cypher Effect Live

The Cypher Effect continues to powerfully echo through the underground terrains of hip-hop. The YouTube series started out with a simple concept: Film up-and-coming rhymers spitting their best bars in black-and-white while promoting the hell out of their social media profiles. The Cypher Effect expanded outside of its Southern California stronghold to film MCs across the nation with a new Mic Check spot to keep things fresh. The series comes to OC for its 3rd annual live show event–hosted by 2Mex with DJ Javie Lopez, Cypher Effect rappers will rock the stage at downtown Santa Ana's Yost Theater. Underground heavy hitters like Reverie, Gavlyn, Phora, Self-Provoked, Rics Rumble, Sage One and Gremlin round out a line-up that's guaranteed to keep the hip-hop heads entertained 'til midnight. Kings of Leon
Verizon Wireless Amphitheater
Before the release of their sixth album, Mechanical Bull, last year, Kings of Leon were suffering from some pitfalls that come with rock stardom. Shows were cancelled while lead singer Caleb Followill dealt with alcoholism, undercutting the band's frenetic live performances that made them famous in the first place. Now, after spending the better part of this year on the road, the Followill cousins are closing out the American leg of their tour in Irvine with a bill that includes an opening set from Young the Giant. Like the hit-laden catalog of the band's recent past, songs like the rockin' “Supersoaker” and the more deliberate “Wait For Me” shot up the charts, not only proving that the Kings are back after a few tumultuous years, but are ready to reclaim their place as modern rock royalty.
