Few concept albums produced in the last decade approach the ingenuity and passion of the Appleseed Cast's Low Level Owl Volumes 1 and 2. Fewer records still are as deserving of a live rendition as both volumes of this post-rock masterpiece.

Recorded in the fall of 2000, Low Level Owl represents the Appleseed Cast's ambitious attempt to shed generic labels and defy expectations. Upon its release, Pitchfork credited the band with establishing a unique vision for the future of rock.

Since Low Level Owl, the Appleseed Cast have changed record labels and band members multiple times. Founders Christopher Crisci and Aaron Pillar joined by bassist Nate Whitman and drummer John Momberg are now blazing through North America, performing both volumes of Low Level Owl in their entirety. The tour coincides with the release of a triple-LP Low Level Owl vinyl set.

The Appleseed Cast perform with Hospital Ships and Set to Sea at the Glass House, Pomona, Thurs. 7 p.m. $12. All ages.
