Slayer Cancels Tour Scheduled to Stop in Long Beach on Jan. 22

The metal monster tour of Slayer, Megadeth and Testament, which made my Top 10 Orange County Concerts of 2010 list and scheduled to stop at the Long BeachConvention and Entertainment Center on Jan. 22, has been canceled.

Blame it on back surgery for Slayer bassist/vocalist Tom Araya (pictured).

“Tom gave various medical treatments more than a fair shot,” said Slayer's manager Rick Sales in a statement, “but they just haven't handled the problem, so he's biting the bullet and is scheduled for back surgery at the end of this month.”

Sales added, “As unfortunate as this is for so many people–the Megadeth and Testament camps, the concerts' promoters, and, of course, the fans–Tom's health is the number one priority, and this has to happen.”

Considering the amount of head banging Araya has done over the years, his back must be so twisted he's lucky he doesn't have to screw his shirts on.
