Rappers (And John Legend) React To Police Violence

Rappers Snoop Dogg and the Game led a protest march to the Los Angeles Police Department’s headquarters last week (July 8). Their objective: to reintroduce the Police Department to members of the community it serves. About 50 men joined their “Operation H.U.N.T” march. (H.U.N.T is an acronym for both Hate Us Not Today and Hunt Us Not Today).

Here is a portion of the call-to-action posted by The Game on Instagram:

“Calling: ALL AFRICAN AMERICAN MEN, MEXICAN AMERICAN MEN & any other RACE of REAL MEN with heart to stand with us today & walk peacefully to the LAPD headquarters. [LEAVE ALL WOMEN & CHILDREN AT HOME… THIS IS OUR MISSION FOR THEM] Do not: bring any weapons or anything illegal. Do not come high or belligerent.. We don’t need any HOT HEADS or anyone there for the wrong reasons… We will stand as we are, UNIFIED. I’m calling ALL GANGS, ALL RACES, ALL GROWN MEN affiliated or not & WE WILL STAND UNIFIED…”

After the peaceful march, the Game and Snoop Dogg appeared at a press conference with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and LAPD chief Charlie Beck.

“I have no malice in my heart … or anger toward anyone police officer,” said the Game. “This is a beautiful city that can be one, that was one, that can get back to being one … I want to tell everyone that I love you no matter what race you’re from, where you come from … whoever you are,” he said. “If you are human being, this is a day of change.”

Police officers are unpredictable; power + fear is a recipe for disaster. We applaud Snoop and the Game and we hope the recent horrific acts caused by and inflicted upon police officers do not promote civil unrest or domestic terrorism in our country.
