Radio Legend Art Laboe is Now an Aztec Warrior!

The accolades for legendary radio host Art Laboe are prolific. His decades-long career has netted him a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, an induction into the Radio Hall of Fame and an Art Laboe Day proclamation in Los Angeles County. But did you know the Oldies But Goodies host beloved by generations of la raza is now going to be an Aztec warrior?

]

Well, kinda. The Mexican American Opportunity Foundation is honoring Laboe with a Media Aztec Award at its annual gala tomorrow! Hosted at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, the event recognizes his positive contributions in the Latino community. From hanging out with Ritchie Valens to spinning Selena songs, it's no secret that Laboe is a honorary Chicano with his Sunday Special oldies show drawing faithful listeners from all over Aztlán!

“It is an honor to receive this award and I am grateful for my followers, particularly my Mexican-American fans that have been my most ardent devotees and helped me achieve this esteemed Aztec Award,” Laboe says in a press release. The trophy, complete with a sun dial atop, will go nicely in the collection case along with the host's National Hispanic Media Coalition Lifetime Achievement Award.

In the spirit of the Chicano Soul Legends concert Laboe is bringing back to the Honda Center this December 5, we take this moment to dedicate the Chicano national anthem “Suavecito” by Malo to our voice on the airwaves!
