Our Blow-by-Blow of Bassrush Massive Last Night in Las Vegas

12:00 am:
I'm about to arrive for the only 18+ event revolving around EDC, Bassrush Massive. Looking at the title I can already feel my heart violently pounding because the bass will be so deep. Bassnectar will be on as I walk in, followed by Knife Party, Datsik and Borgore. I'm ready to see what Vegas bassheads have to show for themselves.

12:05 am: I just arrived in the parking lot of the Orleans Arena. A raver girl is wearing green Tron suit made of glowsticks and some furry boots, just barely upstaging a girl next to her girl wearing a sparkling gold jacket  who claims to be suffering from vaginal elephantiasis (gross). You know the EDC spirit is in the air when a dubstep show hosts an arena full of people in kinky, creative costumes saying obnoxious shit.

12:20 am:Walking down the aisles of the arena, there is an enormous light display dangling from the rafters of the arena, blinding strobe lights, and bass so strong it is making my vision blurry.

12:30:
While walking through the crowd, there are kandy rave girls, a furry dancing tiger, a couple of goth girls, masquerade mask-wearing tandems, over-sized foam cowboy hats, glowstick themed attire. The female population is basically divided into two camps: half-naked girls, and half naked girls that really need to put something on.

12:40: Bassnector is playing some hip-hop infused dubstep. While walking up to the stands as the bass dropped I see people spinning strings of glowsticks like yo-yos and spinning them around like Zulu warriors. For the sake of not getting hit in the face, I wish these fools would leave some of their douchey stunts to the professionals.

12:45 am:
Bassnectar begins spinning at a slower BPM and plays a love-step remix of “Timestretch.”I see a couple holding hands while they shuffle together as if it were a slow dance at prom. Or maybe the psychedelics have already left them zombified.

12:48 am: Woah, things are starting to get live seconds Bassnectar says, “Get the fuck up,” I now can't see anything because of all the girls — and some guys — sitting on their dudes shoulders. They the crowd starts to shuffle to drum and bass and wah-wahs to “The Matrix”

1:00 am
: This guy's costume looks like a laser tag uniform covered in neon colored furry balls, whiffle balls. Imagine all the time it must've taken to put this ensemble together, just for the simple pleasure of yelling the punchline “I'm rolling balls,” as he skates away. Yep, that was totally worth it, bro.

1:15 am:
Knife Party is playing “Save the Word” (really? this is soooo EDC 2011)
1:20 am:The pungent aroma of sticky green ganja is now consuming the Orleans Arena. I bet who ever is sparking up is working on getting as high as this lady.

1:30 am:
Knife Party created the infamous “Internet friends,” (see? told ya we'd hear this one!) which is a ridiculously over-played electro crowd pleaser.  This was a EDC reminder that will continually travel from stage to stage of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway hearing every summer dance floor song on repeat.

1:40 am:
A guy that I'm sure found some Molly just me to kneel down — uhhh… — walking away now.
1:50 am:  If you drop the electro bass they will shuffle.
1:51 am:Ooo is that “Seek and Destroy” I hear? I love Metallica. Damnit, more earth-shaking bass to ruin timeless song.

1:53 am :So, remember the guy that found Molly? Well he climbed over the riot crowd barricades, ran across the stage and jumped off of the side while falling into empty backstage space and walking back into the crowd. It's a wonder this guy hasn't succumbed to natural selection yet.

1:58 am:
Everyone was shuffling to Knife Party's drum and bass climax. And then… silence, someone must've unplugged their CDJs.

1:59 am:Silence

2:00 am:Still no music
2:01 am:Still silent and rowdy screaming fans yell “Datsik, Datsik”
2:02 am:Either it was a very off beat set change during a song, or a shitty set change. Datsik begins his set, as a bulk of the crowd begins to march our of the arena. The dance floor is now half empty — what a shitty way for him to start off his Birthday. It is a clear indication that the name Knife Party drew most of the bass-heads on this night.

2:14 am: Datsik got me dancing with those who stayed as remixed “Gin and Juice” — Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg couldn't drop the bass this hard, even if they wanted to.

2:24 am:In Vegas, you can be who ever you want to be. A guy is line dancing to drum and bass, literally kicked off his shoes violently, plaid shirt and all.

2:56 am:As he ends his West Coast set with a dub-fied version of “California Love” Datsik said this is the best birthday with friends as he is joined on stage by friend Excision once again.

3:01 am:
A rapping Borgore hits the decks and–in a brilliant move of autopilot DJing– clicks “Levels” (Skrillex remix) on his itunes playlist. Someone shoot me now.

3:02 am: Now he brought girls dancing on stripper poles on each side of his turntable — life is much better.

3:05-3:07 am: Boregore is now rapidly going through a random set of songs “Somebody To Love (Skream remix) to a hard-style break, followed by a dubstep remix of Riskay's “Smell Yo Dick,” heads back to mainstream world with “Have You Seen Molly” and “Bass Canon” — couldn't he stick with one song for more than 45 seconds?
