Oh Boy: Anaheim to Host 'Largest Gathering of Barbershop Enthusiasts on the Planet'
A lot of emails pass through a music editor's inbox in a given day, but here's a surefire way of getting some attention: make the subject "LARGEST GATHERING OF BARBERSHOP ENTHUSIASTS ON THE PLANET."
Oh yes. It's happening. June 28 though July 5, at the hilton Anaheim. It's apparently the 71st annual (!) Barbershop Harmony Society International Convention, with all sorts of events planned, most notably the "Bank of America Collegiate Barbershop Quartet Contest." Sounds like a real rowdy dow.
Whenever I think of Barbershop, I think of a couple things: The Simpsons episode with Homer telling the story of the Be Sharps, the Newsradio episode with Dave's a capella group from college, Chock Full o' Notes (with David Cross, Bob Odenkirk and Brian Posehn!) and, of course, Rockapella. Sure, the last two might not actually be Barbershop, but still.
