'OC Can You Play?' to Stash Pianos Everywhere

If you've stumbled across any random pianos recently, you may have wondered why there are 20 randomly placed around Orange County. The Pacific Symphony is promoting its “OC Can You Play?” project and dispersing the pianos everywhere from Costa Mesa to Brea to Mission Viejo. The instruments were donated by Yamaha and Kawai, and the kickoff to the  project was on Jan. 14 at Jewel Court in South Coast Plaza.

]
You may have first heard about this concept when British artist Luke Jerram placed 60 pianos around New York City as part of his “Play Me I'm Yours” exhibit, but the Pacific Symphony has its own idea. It's getting folks to want to play music and place bids on the pianos to benefit the Bidding for Good charity, which is an auction site that sends all proceeds to schools and other nonprofit charities. The auction will be held from Jan. 30 to Feb. 5 on the charity's website.

According to the LA Times, people who send in pictures of themselves at all 20 pianos via the orchestra's Facebook page will be entered in a drawing to win season tickets to the Pacific Symphony, and people have made it to at least three pianos will receive a 20 percent discount off their next ticket. At least try to find one piano because each is painted by a different local artist.
