As tomorrow marks International Women's Day, a new photography exhibit Now This is SanTana is set to open in the city's downtown at El Centro Cultural de Mexico.
Through the lens of a camera, Zuleica Zepeda, a local award-winning Xicana indigenous artist and photographer, has collected a series of images over the course of the past four years highlighting SanTana as an Orange County epicenter for art, youth and immigrant social movements.
“It tells the story of the people of Santa Ana,” says Zepeda of her first solo exhibit. Zepeda is also co-founder of the Seeds of Resistance women's art collective in the city.

May Day marches, struggles over gentrification and the artistic talents of youth muralists are just some of the spotlight moments she has captured with her camera. A common thread through it all ties into its opening reception timed with International Women's Day and Women's History Month.
“I'm a female artist and I'm having this show in honor of the female spirit, my mother, my abuelita, my ancestors,” Zepeda says. “Many of the photographs are of mujeres and women are at the front of many of the grassroots movements here in Santa Ana.”
The exhibit opens tomorrow evening from 6:30 – 10 p.m. with a special performance by Cuatro Noches de Luna and runs through March 31 at El Centro Cultural de Mexico, 313 N. Birch Street, Santa Ana.
