We hit the first-ever Long Beach Comic Con at the Long Beach Convention Center this past weekend, and it was a busier-than-expected, promising start, full of roller derby gals, dudes in costumes, pro wrestling and even some comic books. Keith May took some fab pics that are here, but if you'd like to see some iPhone pictures from a completely untrained photographer (me), well, read on!
How do we know this con is legit? Nintendo was there, showing off titles like 'Wii Fit Plus.' Anothing thing to feel guilty about not doing!
Comic book conventions are always full of stars from the past (for whatever reason). Here's one of the very best: Anthony Michael Hall!
Is there a more fun convention activity than sitting around far away from where anything interesting is happening and recording a podcast? These guys don't think so!
Comic con troubadours, busking for back issues.
At least they're honest! (Full sign reads "Creeps Selling Garbage.")
Oh, duh! There were several actual pro wrestling matches on Saturday afternoon, tucked into a corner of the floor, featuring local talents such as Scott Lost and Joey Ryan.
The OC Roller Girls promoted tirelessly throughout the show, skating around, hanging out fliers and generally frustrating fanboys. (It happens.)
Apparently, a book exists entitled "The Knight Rider Companion." And this guy wrote it. Good for him.
That can't be annoying to carry around all day!
This is Josie Davis from 'Charles in Charge' eating a salad. This is a great picture.
Also spotted at Long Beach Comic Con: actual comics!
I took this picture because I thought it was odd that Barnes and Noble would have a booth at a comic book convention. But the girl behind the counter thought I was taking a picture of her, and took off her glasses and blew me a kiss. I think I've got a chance!
Crazy last-minute sales at the con's closing Sunday afternoon turn the place into a mob scene. A MOB SCENE!
