Mord Fustang at the Yost Theater, Mar. 8, 2012
Mystery #1: Who was Mord Fustang? Most in the crowd didn't know if he was on stage, because they had no idea how he looked like.
Mord Fustang didn't hit the stage at 12:45 a.m., and revived the desolate, impatient crowd with his unique electro disco take on electronic music. He pumped out his hits like, "Milky Way", "Lick The Rainbow" and "Magic Trooper", while adding in a wobble here and a wobble there. With the added element of the light show and twin fog machines, the Yost looked and felt like a futuristic underground disco speakeasy--in other words, like the one good scene of Tron II.
Without skipping a beat, Mord performed the iconic bass line of Queen and David Bowie's classic "Another One Bites The Dust", which segued into his mix of LMFAO's "Sexy And I Know it"--instant feet shufflers. He then put the crowd in trance with his mix of Morgan Page, Sultan & Ned Shepard's, and BT track, "In The Air," with the hard rhythmic bass lines and hypnotizing vocal build ups working its magic over the crowd.
Just when you thought Mord Fustang's set was on all V-8 cylinders (pardon the pun, but we had to go there), he pulled the Trance-step track "You Got To Go (Seven Lions Remix)." The man of mystery ended with the electro wobble storm, "A New World." making the crowd as crazy as the stuffed teddy bears in the Weetabix cereal commercial.
All the hype about Mord Fustang was clarified on this night. Unfortunately his odd start time at 12:45 a.m. messed with the experience, as the Yost was only half-filled when Fustang hit the stage. Because very few people have seen Fustang's face, there was confusion the whole night as to who was behind the DJ booth.
Critic's Bias: I'm still getting into the dubstep groove, but when he performed "You Got To Go"(Seven Lions Remix), I felt the magic.
The Crowd: A blend of casual club goers and the 18+ crowd.
Overheard In The Crowd: "You're not a whore are you?"
"Is that Mord Fustang?"(multiple times)
Random Notebook Dump:
1.Two guys had a butt war while shuffling.
2. A drunk guy tried to do a number of b-boy tricks, he ultimately landed on his head while his shoes fell off.
