Música en Movimiento Festival Returns to Downtown SanTana This Weekend!

Hardworking grassroots cultural organizers, in an annual tradition, aim to bring the best activist music together in the heart of SanTana for an all day summer festival. This Saturday, Música en Movimiento returns to the parking lot at El Centro Cultural de México with a cadre of poets, artists, activists and bands ready to use their talents to help change the world around them.

In collaboration with Revolution at 33 1/3, a diverse array of genres are on deck to hit the stage. Among the assembled are longtime Los Angeles Xicano favorites Aztlan Underground and Quinto Sol who together serve as the hard-hitting headliner.

Música en Movimiento, of course, taps into the rich talents of la naranja. OC Best Jazz/Latin award-winning vocalist Nancy Sanchez returns. Anaheim rap group Sacred Blasphemy and rising femcee Miss Char are holding it down for local hip-hop. Former Weekly intern, featured poet and Barrio Writer chingóna Marilynn Montaño joins a whole lot of other SanTaneros who will also be in the mix.

The local event also thinks globally. Part of the proceeds will go Galaxy Dance Project Uganda, a non-profit organization doing humanitarian work centered on youth through hip-hop culture in the African country.

“We hope to bring together underground acts, local organizations, and vendors to promote social consciousness and political awareness,” says Centro volunteer Joese Hernandez. “Considering the limited budget that we have to work with, we are putting on a festival for the people, by the people,” he adds. “We want to provide musical entertainment and unity for the community.”
