Listen to This: Nocando and Intuition

LA's Low End Theory club had to wait three years to finally win the acclaim it deserved since day one. The club's responsible for inventing a new kind of instrumental future music at the intersection between heavy psych and heavy beats--but now even everyone who reads the LA Times knows where to find what's coming next.

What they might not quite know is that Santa Ana's Crosby has a nice little sideline going as Low End South, where world-class Low End regulars like Gaslamp Killer and Flying Lotus join locals Free The Robots for the most intimate shows you'll ever get to see.

Another little known fact: Low End has always had something extra going besides beats, and he goes by the name Nocando. He's Low End's only resident MC and a ferocious Project Blowed alum, as well as a member of Customer Service--also home to Kail, whose much underrated Hollywood Squares demands your purchase now--and one of California's most storied battle rappers. (Scribble Jam champ, etc.) Now he's released his first full-length, which rips the wires out of the idea that battle rappers can't write.

After the jump: More on Nocando, upcoming show info and get introduced to Intuition.

Jimmy the Lock connects tracks from Low End mainstays like Nosaj Thing and Nobody (here boldy experimenting with autotune) with Nocando stalwarts like Maestroe and Santa Ana's Free The Robots, whose "DSD2" gives Nocando the kind of trampoline Blowedians need for their most daring acrobatics.

He's funny and vicious and fearless like you'd expect--with songs that get so personal you'll listen to them with a towel wedged under the door--but this isn't an ex-fighter still looking for a fight.

As on his haunting "98" on the Blowed anniversary comp, Nocando combines the calisthenic ability of a battle rapper with a precise sense of pace, dynamic and narrative development--these are real songs and real stories.

Also appearing: Swim Teamers Dumbfoundead and Open Mike Eagle plus Intuition, first signee to Nocando's Hellfyre Club imprint. He's an Alaskan transplant and, like Sahtyre, a Vonnegut fan whose album Girls Like Me--featuring "Hold Your Breath," with Equalibrum producing and Racquel Rodriguez singing--is one of those albums where the lights reveal just about everything.
