J. Mascis is Playing at Alex's Bar Tonight; Watch His Cover of Edie Brickell's 'Circle'

J. Mascis performs at Alex's Bar tonight, solo! The Dinosaur Jr. founder (also: skier, golfer, songwriter, skateboarder, record producer, and musician) is touring to promote Several Shades of Why, his first solo studio record. On the album are a bunch of people who no doubt have been influenced by Mascis: Kevin Drew of Broken Social Scene, Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses.

It has his trademark Neil Young-like vocals, sure, but  none of the fuzzy guitar tone Mascis is known for. It's all acoustic. After the jump, check out a few songs that are on the album that Mascis performed in Brooklyn for Pitchfork, plus a cover of Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians' “Circle,” one of the best songs from Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars.
