Incoming: The Raveonettes at Detroit Bar

The Raveonettes are gracing us with their presence once again this year at the Detroit Bar. The Danish duo, consisting of Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo, makes music that can be described as a graceful, but highly destructive hurricane--a whirling sound with feedback and overloaded guitars... and all the while Sharin's melodic vocals cruise throughout their songs.

You could say their influences draw from the Ronettes, Buddy Holly, the Jesus & Mary Chain and the Velvets--just take a look at their band name, pulled directly from the Ronettes and Buddy Holly's "Rave On." With this tour, they are promoting their new record, "In And Out Of Control."

The Crocodiles

San Diego-based band, Crocodiles will be supporting them on this tour--the perfect match up, actually. The San Diego duo shares so many musical qualities in common with the Raveonettes, making this a tour one not to be missed. Taking their name from Echo and the Bunnymen, the Crocs actually consists of long-time friends Charles Rowell and Brandon Welchez. They have been touring non-stop as a two-piece, along with an iPod full of backing tracks. And now they have added two more bodies for their live performances.

This show will most likely sell out, so I suggest getting tickets early--it's definitely something not to be missed. And for those of you who aren't sure if this music is for you, you can, of course, check out both bands on MySpace, here and here. You won't be disappointed.

The Raveonettes and the Crocodiles perform at the Detroit Bar, 843 W, 19th St., Costa Mesa,  (949) 642-0600; Tues., 9 p.m., $15. 21+.
