Iconic Music Composer John Barry Dies at 77


According to The Guardian, the legendary Oscar-winning composer John Barry died on Sunday. He was best-known for writing the scores for 11 entries in the James Bond film series. He also earned a total of five Academy Awards for his work on pieces for Dances With Wolves, Out of Africa, Born Free and The Lion In Winter. In addition to his film compositions, he recorded music for more than 20 television programs and several theatrical musicals.

Barry was born in York, U.K., but he moved to the United States in 1970 because of tax issues. He was married four times, including once to fellow Swinging '60s icon Jane Birkin. For his artistic contributions, Barry was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1998. He passed away from a heart attack at his home in Oyster Bay, New York. He was 77.
