Gettin' Made: I Regret(sy) Nothing!

Wait… What?

After the jump, everything you wanted to know about making fun of indie crafts, but were afraid to ask.

]

So I went on over to the Regretsy site and there it was. An early painting of mine from a series I loving called “Fruit and Nuts” collecting cheers and jeers from the blog readers on the front page.

Getting on Regretsy, as lots of indie crafters have found out, is a bit of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, kids can be cruel. Comments left about my Courtney and David painting included such endearments as “Ménage à trash”, “I love that sellers robots are just like us series. It's sad that this one is so piss poor” and “These fruity nuts stink.” So if you ever find yourself featured, be prepared for your ego to take a bit of a beating – both the blog curator and commenters pull no punches.

On the next page – so wait, is there a good side? (And a chance to win!)

The interesting thing is it seems like folks really responded to both my sense of humor about being featured and my willingness to participate in some lively conversation about my work as a whole (and a painting that some would say is not one of my best pieces).

So my recommendation to you, Etsy community, is weather the storm if you get a Facebook post saying “Uhhhh, guess what your twelve foot tall dust bunny sculpture is on Regretsy.” With a little humor (and a big ol' serving of humble pie), you can turn this into something really positive for your shop.

Let's celebrate my adventures on their site with a giveaway – leave a comment on this post before midnight on Friday, January 22 and you'll automatically be entered to win a free archival print of my David, Courtney and Apple Share a Bubble Bath piece! Comment as much as you like, but only one entry per person will be counted. As usual, if you've won something on a Gettin' Made post in the last 30 days you'll be ineligible to win so others have a chance at awesomeness!
