Donavon Frankenreiter To Headline Catalina.com and KROQ's ROQ N' SURF Summer Series

SoCal native Donavon Frankenreiter is scheduled to play Catalina.com and KROQ's ROQ N' SURF summer concerts series on the water.

Pepper, rock n' rhythm roots band, will headline the first date, Saturday, June 16, with support from Long Beach-based singer songwriter, Josh Fischel, and The Fiction.

The Downey-born Frankenreiter, who will play Friday, August 17, initially gained recognition as a surfer. After signing a sponsorship deal with Billabong, he often traveled to Hawaii, where he rented a room from Jack Johnson's parents.

Frankenreiter formed the band Sunchild in the late '90s. By the early '00s, he decided to pursue a solo career and signed with Johnson's Brushfire Records. He released a record and toured extensively in Australia, where he was popular due to his surfing career.

In 2006, he left Brushfire for the famed Lost Highway Records — label to Ryan Adams and Willie Nelson — and had a song featured on the campy film Snakes on a Plane.

The singer has now created his own label, and comes back to SoCal to perform his brand of beachy rock n' roll. Tickets for the concerts, held at Descanso Beach Club, go on sale this Saturday at noon at Catalina.com.
