Yesterday, MTV announced the nominees for their 2012 Video Music Awards. While much was made of this year's awards snubbing previous showstoppers such as Lady Gaga and Rick Ross, the biggest miscarriage of justice solely falls on the complete and total omission of Waka Flocka Flame's “Rooster in My Rari.” It's bad enough the video, which depicts Waka Flocka thuggin' and buggin' alongside a giant rapping rooster, was overlooked for Video of the Year honors, but it didn't even receive a nod for Best Cinematography or Best Video With a Message.

Take one look and tell us this isn't our generation's “Thriller” –

While the song has lead to much debate over what the “rooster” in question actually is (some say it's another term for “chickenhead,” others suggest it's a drugs or gun metaphor), the fact that the video is a literal translation, essentially resulting in a live action Chicken Boo cartoon, makes it this year's pinnacle of the medium.

But, for the sake of discussion, let's compare it to the five Best Video nominees.

]

Katy Perry – “Wide Awake” 2012

Pros: Stunning art direction, breathtaking cinematography, ambitious concept.
Cons: No giant rapping roosters.

Goyte – “Somebody That I Used to Know (featuring Kimbra)” 2011

Pros: Provocative and clever visuals, painstaking detail.
Cons: No giant roosters mackin' on the cuties.

Rihanna – “We Found Love (featuring Calvin Harris)” 2011

Pros: Unforgettable imagery, excellent editing.
Cons: No iced out Foghorn Leghorn chain.

[

Drake – “Take Care (featuring Rihanna)” 2012

Pros: Dynamic use of space, outstanding on-camera performances.
Cons: No armed giant roosters opening fire at anybody.

M.I.A. – “Bad Girls” 2012

Pros: Really cool choreography, eye-popping wardrobe.
Cons: At no point is Waka Flocka rapping alongside a giant rooster.

So there you have it, an honest look and impregnable argument as to why Waka Flocka Flame's “Rooster in My Rari” should be nominated for a 2012 MTV Video Music Award. We'll be expecting our Moonman and Taco Bell gift certificate in the mail.
