Was it only yesterday that people thought Lil Kim had died instead of Kim Jong Il? Why yes, yes it was. And thanks to the magic of the internets, that seems like a lifetime ago–certainly not the same day that Bon Jovi frontman Jon Bon Jovi was reported to have died, in a website called dailynewbloginternational.
The story that spread seemed to have been copied from an LA Times story on Michael Jackson's death, changing facts a bit to reflect Bon Jovi's New Jersey roots. The news spread, making Bon Jovi the latest to succumb to death by Twitter, prompting the frontman to post a photo on his Facebook page saying, “Heaven looks a lot like New Jersey.” Heh-heh, heh.

Justin Beiber
On Twitter, Bieber is like Jesus: he dies and comes back to life again with amazing regularity. This June, the teen heartthrob was twice reported dead. In the first scenario, he was shot by his publicist and then later, more mundanely, killed in a car accident. After the hashtag “RIP Justin Bieber” inundated the Web, Bieber made light of the whole thing by tweeting, “Wait —
turns out I'm alive.”
Aaron Carter
This time last year, teen singer Aaron Carter's account was supposedly hacked, and a tweet announced his death via drug overdose. Mass hysteria ensued, until Carter tweeted (for real this time) “This
is the real Aaron Carter. I know there's a hoax going around, but I'm
here, alive & well. At the compound Working on my mind & soul.”
Britney Spears
Britney Spears is no stranger to death hoaxes; 10 years ago a Dallas radio station claimed
that Spears died in a car accident with her then-boyfriend
Justin Timberlake. (Timberlake was just in a coma, in the rumor.) Anyway, fans freaked out, Spears' publicist confirmed she was alive, and everyone was happy–until two years ago, when Spears' Twitter feed was hijacked. A fake tweet announced her sudden death,
saying, “Britney has passed today. It is a sad day for everyone. More news
to come.” It was corrected a few days later with another Tweet saying: “Britney's Twitter was just hacked. The
last message is obviously not true. She is fine and dandy spending a
quiet day at home relaxing.”
