Billy Kernkamp is performing at the South Coast Plaza Village for a Music For A Cure benefit. Folk singer-songwriter Barrett Johnson (performing with a full band), alternative rock group Melanoid, and R&B outfit Justin Grennan and The Project are also in the lineup.
If you remember, 2010 OC Music Award Best Live Acoustic Winner Kernkamp talked about his mother who was terminally ill with cancer the last time OC Weekly talked to him, which is probably why he's performing for Music for a Cure.

The non-profit organization founded in 2002 by a few members of Sugar Ray, in remembrance of Ryan Michael Bates who at the age of 16 lost his battle against cancer. (Music for a Cure provides children with musical instruments, supports music therapists and music therapy programs at local children's hospitals.)
The Summer Concert at South Coast Plaza Village (corner of Sunflower and Bear) will be held on Friday, August 20 from 5-10 p.m., $5.
