Don't be put off by its shopping-mall location; this restaurant can stand on its own. The mid-priced Italian trattoria transcends its surroundings with a bright, wood-paneled décor; patio area; and flavorful cuisine to match. The pasta, naturally, is a perennial favorite, especially the to-die-for linguine vongole with clams, parsley, white wine and garlic. The meat secondi dishes are generous entrées with surprising additions. The Pollo alla Birra, sautéed chicken breast with prosciutto and fontina cheese, goes over the top with scrumptious asiago mashed potatoes. The wine and champagne list is a knockout; only in OC will you have bottles of Cristal and Krug in the mall. You can splurge on clothes and fine dining in one shot.
