This being Tinseltown, Los Angeles is home to a bevy of independent movie theaters, perhaps none better than Santa Monica's Aero Theater. The 1940s cinema house, now under the guise of the American Cinematheque, still sports a bright neon marquee and plush rows of red theater seats. Most showtimes are limited to evening double features, with the occasional Saturday matinee for the kids. When programming its evening mixes of classics, cult favorites and recent indie features, the Aero looks to create connections (pairing two Shakespeare movie interpretations, say, or low-budget alien attack films), leaving newcomers and regulars alike glued to their seats.
