Before Nancy Silverton and Mario Batali, there was Wolfgang Puck and his pizzas. The Austrian didn't invent the California-style pizza but he's widely credited for popularizing it in the 80s. His success inspired such empires as California Pizza Kitchen. But now, with every new pizzeria doing the whatâ??s-old-is-new thing, his kind of pizza seems as fashionable as parachute pants. South Coast Plaza's Wolfgang Puck Bistro looks like it's been there since that era. The restaurant has now become as well-worn as a roadside diner. But the OG California-style pizza is still served, the crust dead flat, the toppings not too hopelessly outdated, the whole pie still as delicious as it was in the 80s.
