Wienerschnitzel

1888 N. Tustin St.
Orange, CA 92865-4605

This hotdog stand, founded in 1961 in the Los Angeles suburbs, doesn't actually serve weiner schnitzel, though German tourists have been known to come in and ask for it. Instead, count on Wienerschnitzel (which dropped the "Der" from its name in 1977, but continues to use it in promotional campaigns such as "Bringing the Der to the People") for a large menu of hot dogs, chili dogs, and Tastee-Freez ice cream. Small treats like Mini Sundaes and bigger, feed-your-troop fare like the Family Combos (five chili dogs, five corn dogs, and a whopping side of fries) can also be had here. Orange County diners on a health kick would be advised to keep driving; unlike many of its fast-food brethren, Wienerschnitzel remains proudly committed to hot dogs and ice cream, and about the healthiest thing on its menu is a jalapeño popper.
