Tomikawa does business one block away from Taiko, which is arguably the most popular Japanese restaurant in Irvine. During Tomikawa's early years, it was not uncommon to find that among its customers were people who got tired of waiting outside Taiko. But once Tomikawa gets them, they've got them for good. Expected and delivered are always excellent sushi rolls, topped with drizzles of sauce and a lot more creativity than usual. Eel rolls take on a special gleam from a lacquered glaze; but check the specials board often. It's here where you're liable to see a fish fry special for little more than a few bucks. Sure it's probably just the scraps leftover from the sushi, but who cares? They make their own tartar sauce to dip it in.
