You wouldn't expect a restaurant in the thick of a urban-planned entertainment and shopping complex to do anything but play to the lowest common denominator, but Thai Bamboo Bistro at The District in Tustin isn't like that. Yes, they have pad Thai and fried rice, but also fish steamed in banana leaves, crispy soft shell crab on a bed of shredded papaya, and tofu smothered in a peanut sauce that has shades of curry in it. That it has stayed strong despite other failures in an outdoor mall aspiring to be Irvine Spectrum proves that even the lowest common denominator knows a good, authentic Thai restaurant when they see one.
