Shiki purports to be the oldest Japanese restaurant in OC. It might very well be, even if the new owners aren't the original. Despite the orgy of kabuki art, geisha costumes and samurai knick-knacks on the wall, you'll see Latino chefs twirling spatulas and making onion volcanoes at the two teppanyaki tables near the back. This is Japanese food to please the masses. And when your order comes out, whatever it is, whether it's some roll or a bento box, you can't help but think that the food tastes exactly as it did thirty years ago. They even have chicken broth as an alternative for those who still think miso soup is too exotic.
