Like many fast-food chains, Schlotzsky's got its start in a college town—in this case, Austin, Texas, where it opened its first location along South Congress Avenue in 1971. Picking the name Schlotzsky's "because it sounded funny," a local couple offered exactly one sandwich, "The Original," a marinated-olive classic that remains on the menu today. Today the franchised sandwich chain does business in 35 states and four countries, and the selections have expanded to include salads, pizzas, and more recently, low-carb wrap versions of its most popular sandwiches. Health-conscious Orange County diners will find that a list of nutritional information is commonplace at most Schlotzsky's locations; the chain also goes to the trouble of listing potential allergens in each menu item. Schlotzsky's is easy to find on Voice Places.
