Before it was Mama Hong's this used to be another Vietnamese restaurant that served pho. Before that, it was yet another Vietnamese restaurant. Point is: this location has seen a lot of Vietnamese restaurants. Now that it’s become Mama Hong’s—a decidedly more fashionable one with interior design motifs that must have cost someone more than its previous owners cared to invest—let's hope it lasts a while. You can still have a bowl of pho here, of course. But there's a pork chop that cuts with fork and served with a sunny side-up egg; banh mi sandwiches stuffed with grilled chicken; and even a proper fried rice served in a humongous mound enough for two.
