There are at least three funnel cake vendors at the OC Fair, and whatever differences there might be between them are most likely nominal. It's hard to resist The Lazy Toucan, though, if simply because of its name. The funnel cakes comes out quick—like within seconds of ordering—a golden fried bird’s nest looking-thing dusted in a snow flurry of powdered sugar and piled up with an excessive amount of whipped cream. What was salty and deep-fried-to-crispy-noodle-shapes will counteract whatever topping you choose, but especially the sweetness of strawberries and the fluff pillow of cream. The batter tangles are perfectly cooked—tender, not too over-fried, almost like a breakfast pancake or a freshly-made waffle.
