Corona Del Mar has a lot of great restaurants, most of them of the spendy kind. But even its deep-pocketed residents need casual Mexican where there's a salsa bar and you can phone ahead for take-out. La Fogata is that kind of place. The locals love it because it's located in perhaps the only shopping plaza in this seaside hamlet that has spare parking spaces; the food is freshly cooked to order; and if they're inclined to eat there, the dining room is nice enough they can bring a date. If you want to do the latter, it’s probably enough to order one of their grilled chicken plates, which are humungous even before they add on the black beans and rice pilaf. Yes, we did say rice pilaf. This is Corona Del Mar after all; not Corona.
