If you're not often impressed with these DIY BBQ restaurants, Gyu Kaku might change your mind. Herewith is a Japanese yakiniku chain that does it right. Yes, it can get expensive. If you order a la carte, be prepared when the final check arrives. The better deal is to the all-you-can-eat option. Halfway through grilling your fourth plate of sliced beef tongue, you've already recouped your costs. And oh that beef tongue! If you've had something more lean and playfully tender, it may have just been butter. But there are also cuts that glaze themselves as it cooks. Everything seems to take on a special resonance when it tastes like it's sliced from prime steak and fatty pork, and when you know you can have as much as you want. There are mushrooms foil packets that you can let steam in the fire until they puff up like Jiffy Pop. There's even an awesome dessert of smores, which makes ingenious use of the grill to toast your marshmallows!
