It's rare to see many customers eating at Bebe's Thai Cafe, even on Saturday nights. But when there are takers, the best seats in the house are claimed first. These are the booths next to windows, with a front-row view of the gym at the Orange County Badminton Club, the only one of its kind around these parts-an entire building dedicated to a sport so obscure to Americans that Huell Howser even dropped by once to do a whole show here. He could do another segment on the restaurant. Bebe's looks like a casual American diner cut from the same cloth as Coco's and Carrow's. And the food isn't for those expecting to rekindle their Bangkok-trip memories. White meat pervades a chicken-and-potato yellow curry; the bright, sunny concoction is possibly OC's least spicy. Still, it's one of the place's best dishes when eaten with lots of rice. And though it still puckers the lip with its tartness, the tom kha gai is loaded with sliced onions; absent is any sort of chili. For a main course, get the cashew chicken, a surprisingly good dish made with white-meat chicken stir-fried with what we guess is a sauce that starts with ketchup.
