Special Screenings

If you didn't see this one during its debut in theaters last year, come check out this documentary that looks into the disappearance of the EV1, the electric car that would have put the hybrid to shame and petroleum dealers in the poorhouse. After seeing this film, you may well begin to have sympathy for those ecoterrorists that firebomb Hummer dealerships. Whether man-made global climate change is real or not (it is, by the way), I think we can all agree that spending upwards of $50 at the pump kind of stinks. If we don't give a damn about the world our kids will inherit (we don't, by the way), we at least care about our pocketbooks. Irvine Fine Arts Center, 14321 Yale Ave., Irvine, (949) 724-6880. Tues., 7 p.m. Free.

Other Screenings:

Sadie Thompson. This silent film, based on a W. Somerset Maugham story and featuring Lionel Barrymore and Gloria Swanson in an Academy Award-nominated performance, concerns a wayward girl's attempts to start a new life on a foreign island, only to be confronted by her past courtesy of a hypocritical missionary. Apparently, if you look closely, you can see Swanson say a few naughty words that don't get translated onto the title cards. In the '20s, that was a thrill akin to finding a Penthouse under your older brother's bed. Long Beach School for Adults, 3701 E. Willow St., Long Beach, (562) 997-8000. Fri., 7 p.m. $1 materials fee.

Rocky Horror Picture Show. Some do Pilates, some do "The Time Warp." It's okay, boys, put on some makeup and look fabulous—a lot of girls are into ambiguous sexuality. Well, at least they were in Santa Cruz. Royal Theater Aboard theQueen Mary, 1126 Queens Hwy., Long Beach, (562) 684-4411; www.qmxroyal.com. Sat., midnight. $8.
