The in-person, premiere screening of a new documentary on snowboarder Travis Rice traveling around the Pacific North to traverse ever more untouched snow will be held Sunday night in Asbury Park—because nowhere brings to mind snowboarding Pacific North terrain like New Jersey.
Ah well, at least you can drive to a much closer locale for the live beaming in of Red Bull Media House's The Fourth Phase.
The “Tune-In Party” begins at 8 p.m. Sunday at Snow Summit resort near Big Bear Lake. The film, which rolls an hour later, also premieres globally online on Red Bull TV at the same time and will be available for purchase Monday.
“We are taking the audience on a real journey with all its ups and downs,” says Jon Klaczkiewicz, the film’s director, in a Red Bullease (a.k.a. press release). “At the film’s core, we are documenting incredible snowboard action in remote corners of the earth, but we are also telling an emotional human story.”
Klaczkiewicz's cameras were lugged through Wyoming’s backcountry and spectacularly remote areas of Alaska as well as across the Pacific to the Japanese Alps and Russian volcanoes—all of which were shot in 4K or higher Ultra HD.

“The mechanics of how our winters work have always been intriguing to me,” he says. “Creating The Fourth Phase brought an incredible group of snowboarders together with the hardest working, most committed production crew in the game, to witness first-hand the many moods of the North Pacific storm engine. The journey was created under the premise that to know something—and to truly understand something—you have to become it.”
Other riders who became it include Mark Landvik, Eric Jackson, Bryan Iguchi, Pat Moore, Mikkel Bang, Jeremy Jones, Victor de Le Rue and Ben Ferguson.
Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Kishi Bashi provides the soundscapes. Rell Bull boasts that The Fourth Phase is the first sports film to be mastered in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
