National Parks Adventure is Another Award Winner for MacGillivray Freeman

National Parks Adventure, the latest large format documentary from MacGillivray Freeman Films, just brought more awards to the much lauded Laguna Beach production company.

The film, which was directed by company co-founder Greg MacGillivray and narrated by Robert Redford, was awarded 2016’s Best Short Subject Film, Best Cinematography, Best Sound Design, Best Original Score and Best Marketing Campaign by a Distributor at the Giant Screen Cinema Association’s Achievement Awards in Toronto.

National Parks Adventure was also named in connection with the award for Best Film Launch by a Theater.

Filmed in more than 30 national parks, including Yosemite, Yellowstone, Arches, Glacier and even the lesser known Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan, National Parks Adventure aims to celebrate the Centennial of America’s national parks and wild landscapes everywhere, according to MacGillivray.

“These natural environments are an essential part of the human spirit,” he says, “and we are so pleased the film is encouraging our audiences to discover the beauty and sanctuary of nature’s treasures wherever they are.”

Besides artistic success, the film has generated more than $18 million in worldwide ticket sales since February, making it the highest-grossing documentary of any kind in 2016 (so far), according to the company.

The film premiered at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History on Feb. 10 and later moved into more than 100 museums and science centers in the U.S. and around the world, something it will continue to do throughout 2017.

Currently, the closest places to see the film on a (really) big screen are California Science Center in Los Angeles and Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in San Diego.
