It’s hard to imagine anyone improving on the 1975 comedy classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail, but somehow adding showgirls and musical numbers had just that effect. Head down to Fullerton to catch the Maverick Theater’s rendition of Spamalot, the Tony-award winning musical billed as a loving rip-off of the absurdist motion picture. Loosely following the tale of King Arthur and the knights of the round table, Spamalot features plague victims, Finnish dancers armed with large fish, and of course those silly knights who say "ni." During its 2005 Broadway run, Spamalot picked up an impressive three Tony Awards including best musical and featured Sara Ramirez (of Grey’s Anatomy fame) as the Lady of the Lake. Directed for the Fullerton stage by Curtis Jerome, it promises to be a schlip-schlapping good time.
