Resurrection Beach Metropolitan Community Church welcomes Professor Scott Angus of Maryville University of St. Louis MO as he presents: “Forgotten Heroes.”

His talk and exhibit will explore the American Civil War through the untold stories of “Forgotten Heroes” who fought numerous battles as the other sex. Angus has discovered eight portraits of extraordinary women who lived, dressed, and fought as men, which he has reworked with the colors of the contemporary transgender rights movement to link the past and present struggles of those who cross gender lines to live with absolute free will. These portraits put a face and a story to the early pioneers of the feminist and civil rights movements.

The collection also celebrates the sacrifice and bravery of the true pioneers fighting for equality. The American Civil War began the first steps on a journey toward equality for all people - a journey which continues today.

Join us to hear these eight powerful stories. Veterans and active duty military are free to this event with valid ID. Students and seniors are eligible for 30% off with valid ID. Use codes “Military,” “Student” or “Senior” when purchasing. A portion of funds raised will be granted to the OC LGBT Center.

Resurrection Beach Metropolitan Community Church is LGBTQ-founded and is one of Orange County’s oldest open and affirming churches. This event is being presented as a secular, non-religious function as a community service to the people of Orange County.
