In the past few years, the Observatory has been the location for not only some of the biggest independent music festivals and concerts in OC, but some of the most innovative in the country. The latest to properly garner attention is Soulquarius. With R&B and soul icons like Erykah Badu and The-Dream with rappers like DMX, Ja-Rule and Ashanti on the bill, the brand new fest pays respect to artists old enough for fans to have well-intended nostalgic feelings towards. However, the new generation of Jhene Aiko, the Internet, Pretty Ricky and BJ the Chicago Kid prove that the kids are alright too. Once again, the booking of a fantastic and unexpected festival in the office park that music built is the unofficial launch of the 2017 music season. It's off to a promising start.
