This weekend is your final chance to catch Sarah Rafael Garcia's immersive “Santa Ana Fairytales” show at Grand Central Art Center, located in the Artist Village close by from the site of the many gentrification battles discussed in the show. A podium greets you as you enter, where you can find a book filled with stories about Santa Ana's many characters and real people told in magical realist form. Pieces of downtown SanTana's forgotten history are brought back to life through first person narratives, including the beloved carousel that resided by the Yost Theater. Slain transgender activist Zoraida Reyes is a fairy godmother to other transgender individuals, and a paletero is displaced by a hipster ice cream store. With props, zines and wall signs, you can fully engage and gain a deeper understanding of the city's past.
