ANAHEIM, CA – Meritáge Vocal Arts Ensemble Vocal Arts Ensemble will present its 2018 Season Opening Concert, Opera Scenes, on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., at Anaheim United Methodist Church, 1000 South State College Boulevard, Anaheim, CA. Admission is $20.
Opera Scenes is a celebration of the greatest opera moments for the choir. Usually a backdrop for the soloists portraying the main characters of the story, the role of the choir is one of accompanying and complementing the story line. However, there are plenty of moments in which composers have written marvelous choral jewels, allowing vocal ensembles to brilliantly shine on stage. Whether it is the opening of a scene, a celebratory feast, or a quiet collective meditation; opera music for the choral instrument represent some of the most memorable moments of this genre.
Featured works include scenes from Smetana’s The Bartered Bride, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana; and all-time favorites such as the “Humming Chorus” from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, “Habanera” from Bizet’s Carmen, the “Anvil Chorus” from Verdi’s Il Trovatore, and the stunning “Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves” from Verdi’s Nabucco. These beautifully contagious melodies will surely please audience members of all ages! For tickets and additional information: www.Meritage-vocalarts.org.
